BMW R 1200RT

The BMW R 1200RT is a premium touring bike designed for riders who want long-distance comfort, high performance, and advanced electronics in one package. Before the R 1250 RT replaced it, this model stood as one of BMW’s most popular sport-tourers, offering a smooth boxer engine, high-end touring ergonomics, and excellent reliability.

The BMW R 1200RT features include a 1,170 cc air/liquid-cooled boxer twin engine producing around 124 HP at 7,750 rpm and 125 Nm torque at 6,500 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox with a shaft drive makes it ideal for long-distance riding with minimal maintenance. Claimed mileage is around 18 kmpl, quite efficient for a large-capacity touring bike.

Physically, the bike measures 2,223 mm in length, 905 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, with a seat height of 838 mm (adjustable). Ground clearance stands at ~155 mm, balancing comfort and stability. The wet weight is about 274 kg, giving it a solid road presence. Suspension duties are handled by BMW’s telelever front suspension, ensuring comfort and stability on both highways and twisty routes.

In Bangladesh, the BMW R 1200RT is not officially available, but importing one is possible. Due to taxes and duties, its landed price is estimated around BDT 30–35 lakh, depending on model year and trim.
