Permission for 350cc Motorcycles in Bangladesh

No more waiting. A new journey has begun in the motorcycle industry in Bangladesh. Finally, permission has been granted for motorcycles up to 350cc in Bangladesh.

For a long time, motorcycle enthusiasts in Bangladesh have longed to ride high-cc bikes. Although Bangladesh is capable of manufacturing bikes up to 500cc, only up to 165cc was permitted on the roads until now. However, considering the demand from several motorcycle companies in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has granted permission for motorcycles up to 350cc (engine capacity) to operate on the roads.

F.H. Ansari, Managing Director of ACI Motors, the distributor and manufacturing partner of Yamaha motorcycles in Bangladesh, confirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs granted this permission last Thursday. He informed the media on Friday morning that the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the operation of motorcycles up to 350cc in the country. However, such motorcycles cannot be imported in a completely built-up (CBU) condition. They can only be imported in a completely knocked-down (CKD) condition from abroad, assembled in domestic factories, and then marketed.

In a meeting held last Thursday at the Ministry of Home Affairs, chaired by the Home Minister, permission was granted for motorcycles up to 350cc to operate on the country's roads. Now, the Ministry of Commerce will formulate a policy for the import and assembly of parts for such motorcycles. After that decision, it will be possible to say when 350cc motorcycles will appear on the country's roads.

When asked about the safety of higher-cc motorcycles, Biplob Kumar Roy, Chief Executive of TVS Auto Bangladesh LTD, said, "Higher-cc motorcycles are modern. Their safety systems are also much more advanced." He added, "All brands have higher-cc motorcycles. We will also conduct market research and release higher-cc bikes into the market."

It is now hoped that companies will soon bring their 350cc segment motorcycles to the Bangladeshi market. And we will also see many more new models of bikes in Bangladesh. Furthermore, many new companies are likely to enter Bangladesh. It is expected that 350cc bikes will be seen on the roads of Bangladesh within the next few months.
