The number of road accidents is increasing day by day in our country. Traffic problems and congestion are common issues, and riding a bike in congested and busy areas is now a normal thing for everyone. Young people, working professionals, and older adults all feel more comfortable using bikes now. After learning to ride, everyone buys their preferred bike. But just learning to ride a bike is not enough; while riding, one must always follow traffic signs, traffic rules, and a few other things. Otherwise, unexpected accidents can sometimes lead to fatalities. Let's find out the mistakes that can cause fatalities while riding a bike. For more such bike-related tips, keep an eye on Bikes guide.

Mistakes While Riding a Bike That Can Cause Fatalities

(1). Honk your horn when taking any turn or bend while riding a bike. Keeping your eyes and ears alert during this time is very important. Pay attention to vehicles coming from any direction near you. Use the indicator light for the direction you are turning. Pay attention to the indicator lights of other vehicles. This will allow drivers of larger vehicles to see you. Otherwise, you could be involved in a serious accident from a vehicle coming from the side at any time.

(2) It is important to keep an eye on the rearview mirror while riding a bike. Set the rearview mirror in such a way that the rear view is clearly visible. Otherwise, you won't be able to pay proper attention to the rear when needed, which could lead to a serious accident.

(3) Master the use of bike gears thoroughly. Also, master the use of the clutch when increasing or decreasing bike gears. When you ride a bike at high speed, changing gears by holding the clutch can reduce the bike's speed, increasing the possibility of an accident.

(4) It is extremely important to follow traffic rules. Understand and obey the meaning of traffic signs. On roads in the country where traffic signals do not work, follow the instructions of the traffic police. Ride your bike in such a way that there is no difficulty in stopping it at any time.

(5) When riding a bike in fog, low light, or on dark roads, the indicator light must be kept on. Wear clothing that is clearly visible when light falls on it. When turning, make sure not to fall into the blind spot of other drivers. During this time, keep your speed low. Otherwise, you may get into an accident.

(6) Accidents are often heard of on highways. While riding a bike, riders must pay attention to both front and rear. Pay attention to the movement of vehicles coming from the front. Observe the movement of vehicles behind you using the rearview mirror. Especially avoid overtaking at highway bends and accident-prone areas. You cannot go slow on highways, so stay on one side of the road.

(7) Use helmets and gloves. It is important to use a good quality helmet because if an accident occurs while bike riding, the head is most affected, and the helmet provides protection in this case. Make sure that sand or anything else does not get into your eyes and nose. Also, pay close attention to potholes, speed breakers, stones, and sand on the road. These are among the main causes of accidents. If you see a pothole, ride your bike safely. Otherwise, an accident may occur.

(8) Do not talk on a mobile phone or listen to music with headphones while riding a motorcycle. For urgent needs, you can keep an earbud in one ear, but if you need to talk, pull the bike to the side of the road first.

(9) When making a U-turn, reduce your speed, pay attention to your surroundings, and then turn. This is because vehicles may come from the opposite side of the road, or a vehicle might be coming from your vicinity or behind you to make a U-turn. Therefore, you must be careful about U-turns. Keep a watchful eye on vehicles from the opposite side, otherwise, the chances of a head-on collision increase, which could be a cause of fatality.

(10) Get an idea about traffic signals and road signs. For example, sharp bend ahead, railway crossing, mosque, school, no overtaking, speed breaker, no horn, etc. Follow these signals; this will reduce accidents. Otherwise, dangers will increase.

(11) Take regular care of your bike. Regularly check if the bike's engine, fuel, braking system, tires, and indicators are in good condition. Clean the bike at regular intervals. Use good quality engine oil and lubricant. Otherwise, despite paying attention to everything, you might still face unexpected trouble.

(12) It is not advisable to ride a bike on wet roads. This damages the tires and engine. Do not go out with your bike if the weather is bad. Drive slowly in areas where water accumulates on the road. If there are potholes or uneven surfaces, drive in a lower gear and try to use engine braking. If it rains while riding, move to a safe place; if you absolutely must ride, drive carefully at a reduced speed. Otherwise, the bike may slip, leading to a serious accident.

Conclusion

Bikes are generally used more for reliability. Therefore, the responsibility for your own safety primarily rests with you. By paying attention to the above points, it is possible to reduce fatalities.
