Newbies can find motorcycle gear shifting a bit challenging at first. So, for your convenience, we are going to show you gear-shifting techniques for both manual and semi-automatic transmission systems.
## Shifting Gears in Manual Transmission
### Get acquainted with clutch, throttle, and gear shifter
The clutch is used for transferring torque from the engine to the transmission, and you can find it in front of the left handgrip. The throttle is used for increasing the engine RPM, and you can find it on the right handgrip. A shifter is used for shifting from one gear to another, and you can find it near the left-foot paddle.
### Start the bike
Press the clutch and start the bike by pressing the start button. You are in neutral gear if you can see a green ‘N’ light on the meter console.
### Shift into the first gear
Roll the throttle to the front, press the clutch, and press the shifter downward for once. Release the throttle and clutch slowly, and the bike will start to move. Don’t release the throttle and clutch all at once.
### Shift to the other gears
Roll the throttle back, press the clutch slowly, and press the shifter upward. Every time you do this, you will move one gear up.
### Shift down to the lower gears
Release the throttle, press the clutch, and press the shifter down once. Every time you do this, you will move to a lower gear.
## Shifting gears in a semi-automatic transmission
### Get acquainted with the controls
You have just to use the throttle and shifter in this transmission as the clutch and the shifter are built together.
### Start the bike
Start the bike and bring it to the neutral gear.
### Shift into the first gear
Roll the throttle backward and press the shifter downward for once. You will successfully move from the neutral gear to the first gear.
### Shift into the other gears
Once you are in the first gear, throttle the engine and press the shifter upward. Every time you do this, you will shift to one gear up.
### Shift to the down gears
Just press the shifter downward for once, and you’ll find yourself in the gear down. Do this until you reach the first gear. Make sure to keep the bike in neutral every time the bike stops.
## Conclusion
Although you may find the rules a bit challenging at first, we are sure that you will perfect yourself once you do some practice. Just remember the patterns we mentioned above.
