Why Sportbikes Are a Bad Choice for Long Trips
Are you interested in long journeys? Then find out why a sportbike is not suitable for your trip.
The number of people who don't like motorcycles is quite small. Many also choose motorcycles as companions for long journeys. Therefore, long-distance motorcycle riding is a widespread motorcycle culture worldwide. Some riders often go on long motorcycle tours with very aggressively designed sportbikes, which can be dangerous for riders. So, let's find out why sportbikes are not suitable for long journeys.
There are various types of motorcycles in our market, and they are designed in different ways with various features added for different purposes. For commuting, we use small-capacity commuters; for off-roading, we use off-road or dirt bikes; for touring or adventure rides, we use dual-sport or adventure category bikes. In sequence, for sports and fun rides, we use sportbikes. Again, some sportbikes are characterized for use on public roads.
Sportbikes are also made for public use, and it is true that young people literally love to own a sportbike because it looks very attractive and has much more power compared to other classes of motorcycles. Meanwhile, high speed and top speed are the main attractions of sportbikes among youth nowadays.
Regardless, some riders often embark on long journeys, even adventurous rides, with sportbikes. Perhaps some of you might even find this acceptable. But it is true that sportbikes are not designed for long journeys. A person using a sportbike for a long journey may face difficulties and even suffer physical injury from frequent or continuous long-distance use of a sportbike. In sequence, here are some reasons why sportbikes should not be used for long motorcycle journeys.
Aggressive Riding Ergonomics
The most significant reason not to ride a sportbike on long motorcycle journeys is its extremely aggressive riding ergonomics. Sportbikes are literally designed for track racing purposes and are built to give superior aerodynamic characteristics to the ride and rider, and therefore, riding in such an aggressive riding style for long or continuously is not comfortable. Hence, riding on long motorcycle journeys with these aggressive track-racing-featured machines is not advisable.
Uncomfortable Riding for Long Periods
Sportbikes are ergonomically very uncomfortable to ride for regular tasks. Street sportbikes are literally marketed to the public to give young people a taste of track racing in a minimal amount. So, people like to own good-looking motorcycles and ride casually in cities and on urban roads. But for long rides, these are undoubtedly very uncomfortable, so using a sportbike for long motorcycle journeys is not a good option.
Not Good for the Rider's Physique
Sportbikes are literally not comfortable machines to ride and are not good for riders' physical condition in terms of long-term use. Sportbikes are designed very aggressively and feature very aggressive riding ergonomics, very stiff control features, and a relatively uncomfortable seating position. Thus, riding a sportbike for long years for non-professional purposes like commuting or touring can lead to spinal injuries or damage. So, you must understand why we should not use sportbikes for long motorcycle journeys. Also, on uneven surfaces or in traffic situations, which are literally less controllable than any other type of motorcycle, this is another reason why sportbikes should not be used for long motorcycle journeys.
Disadvantage in Off-roading
Sportbikes are 100% road-centric and are made only for riding on smooth paved roads. Thus, they cannot be used on unpaved surfaces and cannot be easily ridden on off-roads. Therefore, a rider on a long motorcycle journey with a sportbike will have to struggle hard with uneven or rough road conditions. So, using a sportbike for long journeys is not a good option.
Luggage Cannot Be Carried Well
Sportbikes are not designed for touring or long journeys and do not have any luggage-carrying facilities. Whereas on other categories of motorcycles, a rider can fix dedicated luggage systems like hard panniers, soft saddle packs, roll-top bags, etc. But on sportbikes, commonly available luggage systems are not easy to fix.
High Maintenance and Complex Maintenance
Sportbikes are quite sensitive machines in terms of service and maintenance. They require frequent maintenance to perform well, and maintenance is quite complex compared to other categories of motorcycles. Therefore, getting proper service from roadside workshops during travel is a hassle, and for this reason, sportbikes are not a comfortable option for use on long motorcycle journeys.
