How to get a driving license from BRTA (Bangladesh Road Transport Authority)? Here’s the required information and costs.
A driving license is an official identification card that describes a driver’s identity. It is an essential document for adult drivers to operate different types of motor vehicles. According to section 3 of the Bangladesh Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1983, no one is allowed to drive on the road without a valid driving license. So, if you want to drive anywhere yourself, you must have a driving license.
Minimum Eligibility for a Driving License in Bangladesh
- Minimum educational qualification: Class 8 pass. For online applications, minimum SSC.
- First, a learner’s driving license is required.
- Minimum age: 18 years for non-professional drivers and 20 years for professional drivers.
Types of Professional Driving Licenses
1. Light Motor Vehicle (under 2500 kg)
Required for motorcycles, CNGs, private cars, microbuses, etc. Minimum age: 20 years.
2. Medium Motor Vehicle (2500–6000 kg)
Minimum age: 23 years with at least 3 years’ experience driving light vehicles.
3. Heavy Motor Vehicle (over 6000 kg)
Minimum age: 26 years with at least 3 years’ experience driving medium vehicles.
Documents Required for Online Learner’s Driving License
- Photo (300x300px, max 150KB)
- Medical certificate signed by a registered doctor (≤600KB)
- Scanned copy of NID/Birth Certificate/Passport (≤600KB)
- Utility bill (gas/electricity/water) for current address (≤600KB)
Process for Smart Card Driving License
The same documents are required, but the learner’s license number must be provided. After passing written, oral, and practical tests, complete biometric verification and collect the smart card on the scheduled date.
How to Apply for an International Driving License
- A valid smart card driving license is required.
- Fill out the application form on the BRTA website.
- Required documents:
- Attested copy of smart card license
- Photocopy of the first four pages of passport
- One copy of passport-size photo and four stamp-size photos
