For those who ride bikes regularly, the monsoon season is as enjoyable as it is a constant source of worry for their bikes. Monsoon means sudden rain, accumulated water and potholes on the roads, and unexpected traffic jams. Amidst all this, one's beloved bike goes through a lot of wear and tear. Therefore, keeping the bike clean and taking care of it during the monsoon is very important. The following five tips for cleaning your bike will help you ensure smooth performance and longevity:

Using a Bike Cover

It is seen that we decide to leave our bikes outside due to necessity or lack of a garage. In this case, using a rain cover is important to protect the bike from damage caused by rainwater, mud, and sand. Additionally, finding a parking spot that serves as a good shelter for the bike during the monsoon is best. To ensure optimal performance during the monsoon, the bike must be properly covered. You can find good rain covers in the market for BDT 800 to 3,000.

Applying Anti-Rust Protection and Teflon Coating

Nowadays, most newly launched bikes have bodies made of fiber or other anti-rust materials. However, bikes made of rust-prone metals require extra care during the monsoon. If your bike is made of rust-prone metal and does not have anti-rust protection coating, it should be applied before the monsoon season begins. Moreover, most people are unaware of the benefits of Teflon coating for bikes. Teflon's function is another way to ensure that the bike does not rust in rainwater. Most bikes today come with fiber bodywork, but classic motorcycles like Royal Enfield and some scooters still have metal bodies. Therefore, using a Teflon coating on the panels is good as it will protect the bike from rust during the monsoon.

Regularly Cleaning the Motorcycle

Although cleaning the bike daily in the rain is difficult, it is extremely important to clean off mud and water from all parts of the bike. The bike can be cleaned very simply by mixing soap and water. Spray the soap-water mixture on areas like tires, rims, and footpegs where mud accumulates more. This will prevent dirt from accumulating and making the bike look dirty, and also prevent rust on the metal parts of the bike.

Keeping the Chain Lubricated

A dry chain will rust within 3 to 4 days if exposed to rain. Care must be taken to ensure that water does not accumulate on the chain. For this, it must be well lubricated so that raindrops cannot accumulate on the chain. Various types of chain cleaners and lubricants are available in the market. These remove all dirt and sludge attached to the chain.

Checking the Braking System

It is very important to get your bike serviced just before the monsoon. Especially during rain, brakes tend to rust and their effectiveness decreases. Such a braking system is very dangerous on slippery roads. Therefore, when cleaning the bike, the front and rear brakes must be cleaned very carefully. Observe if any water has accumulated on the braking pads. Several types of brake cleaners are available in the market. Regular use of these significantly reduces the risk of brake damage. Additionally, before going out with the bike, ensure that the braking system is working properly.
