The number of bikes and bike riders is currently increasing in Bangladesh. The main reason for this is that bikes are the only means by which they can reach their destination in much less time within a low budget. However, a bike is not just a transport; for many, it's a name of love. It's their companion through storms, rain, and scorching sun. Many also love to go on long tours with their beloved bikes. But how long this bike can be your companion depends on its maintenance and care. Whenever we talk about bike maintenance, the first things that come to our mind are checking the bike's fuel, ensuring adequate lubricant in the bike's chain, checking the bike's tire air pressure, etc. One thing we all overlook is the care of the motorcycle seat. We forget that taking care of the seat is just as important as taking care of other bike parts. Therefore, in this blog today, we will discuss all important information about motorcycle seats and their care.

Motorcycle Seat Cover Material

Before learning about motorcycle seat care, we first need to understand what materials motorcycle seats are made of. A bike's seat is usually made in three layers. The first layer is the base plate, the second layer is the cushion, and the third and final layer is the bike's seat cover. Here, we will primarily learn about the material of bike seat covers. Generally, two types of seat covers are found in the market: one is the familiar leather cover, and the other is marine-grade vinyl. Many prefer marine-grade vinyl considering the price of bike seat covers. However, if you are looking for a long-lasting seat cover, natural leather is definitely better than artificial marine grade. But whether made of leather or vinyl, if the bike's seat cover is not taken care of, it will not last long, so taking care of the bike's seat cover is definitely very important.

Motorcycle Seat Care

Due to daily commuting on dusty city roads or highways, our bike seats get quite dirty. Also, riding in excessive rain has a bad effect on the leather of the bike's seat cover. Therefore, regular care of the bike's seat and seat cover is necessary. Here, we will tell you about bike seat care in three steps.

Motorcycle Seat Cover Cleaning

At the beginning of bike seat care, we need to focus on cleaning the seat cover. Since we use bikes as our daily commute, road dust gets stuck on them, so regular cleaning is essential; otherwise, dirty leather can cause problems later. First, wipe off the dry dust accumulated on the bike's seat cover with a brush or a clean cloth. Then, carefully clean the seat with leather cleaning on a clean cloth, or you can dip the clean cloth into the leather cleaner and then use it to clean your bike's seat. This will remove dry dust and accumulated dirt of several days. However, while cleaning, it is important to remember that this bike seat cover is made of leather, so it must be cleaned carefully with a cloth; otherwise, if you try to clean it with pressure, the leather may be damaged. After cleaning the bike seat, let it dry naturally; do not use any artificial heaters or dryers, as this may save you time but will damage your bike's seat.

Bike Seat Cover Conditioning

After the bike seat cover is completely dry, it needs to be conditioned. If you clean the bike and leave it to dry like this, cracks will appear in the bike's seat cover, which may later cause the leather to tear. Therefore, just as cleaning the bike's seat is important, conditioning it as needed is equally important. Various types of leather conditioning products are available in the market. Try to ensure that when you buy such a product for a bike seat, it is non-toxic and has a water-repellent formula. This will make your bike's seat shine like new, but the conditioning product will not harm the seat. Before using a leather conditioner, you must ensure that the bike seat is clean and dry. After cleaning the bike seat, let it dry naturally, and take a very small amount of leather conditioner and apply it carefully to your bike's seat. After applying the leather conditioner, make sure it dries out naturally. For this, give the bike seat at least one to two hours to dry. A bike seat should be conditioned approximately every three to five months; this will keep your bike seat in like-new condition and improve your riding experience.

Bike Seat Maintenance

Is it enough just to ensure the cleanliness of the bike seat? While paying attention to bike seat care is important, bike seat maintenance is also crucial. If you do not maintain the bike regularly, merely cleaning or conditioning it will not be very beneficial. So, let's learn some tips for bike maintenance.

  • There is an empty space in front of the bike's fuel tank; try to keep a clean cloth there so that you can clean the bike seat with that cloth while riding or after reaching your destination. Sometimes dirt gets stuck on the seat, which can be difficult to clean after a few days, so if you clean it as soon as you see dirt, the seat cover will last longer.
  • When parking the bike, make sure it is not in direct sunlight for too long; try to park the bike in a garage or a shaded area, as excessive sun exposure can damage the leather of your bike's seat.
  • Sometimes, excessive rainwater can also damage the leather of the bike's seat. In such cases, wipe the bike seat with a dry cloth after riding so that the bike seat does not remain wet for too long.
  • After bringing the bike home after every day's ride, be sure to cover it with a cover. Covering the bike is important; it protects not only the bike seat but also other parts from dust.
  • Finally, take the bike to a servicing center at regular intervals. This ensures good care and maintenance of the bike's parts.

We hope that today's blog about motorcycle seat care will be useful to you and that in the future, you will be more aware of how to care for your motorcycle seat. Also, keep an eye on our BikesGuide page for other blogs related to motorcycle care information.
