Detailed Procedure for Renewing a Motorcycle Driving License
Today we will learn about the rules for motorcycle driving license renewal. A motorcycle driving license, or any driving license, is an essential companion for every rider. After purchasing a motorcycle, getting a driving license is a must. Because riding without a license is legally punishable. In every country in the world, driving without a license is a crime. At any time, for any reason, traffic police or law enforcement may stop you and ask for your driving license.
Additionally, a driving license has more uses. Apart from being the permit to drive, it also serves as an identity card. Unlike NID or other IDs that we don’t always carry, the license can be useful during accidents to confirm identity. It can also be used to open bank accounts, travel abroad, or prove your age. Therefore, you must know the rules for obtaining and renewing a motorcycle driving license.
We are all now more conscious about laws. Every driving license has a validity period. According to Bangladeshi traffic law, motorcycle driving licenses are valid for 10 years. After that, the license must be renewed, which is known as driving license renewal.

Detailed Driving License Renewal Procedure
Many of us know how to apply for a license, but not everyone knows the renewal process for professional and non-professional licenses. Let’s go through it in detail:
Step 1:
Apply at the BRTA circle office with the required documents:
- Photocopy of driving license
- Photocopy of National ID (NID)
- Photocopy of citizenship certificate (from local ward councilor)
- 4 passport-size photos
- Original driving license card
For bank deposit, get your license photocopy attested by the renewal officer at the BRTA office. Attach this with the bank deposit slip when paying the fee (2,427 BDT). Keep the bank receipt safely.
Step 2:
Read the form carefully and fill it out accurately. You must complete two forms: renewal form and medical form.
Renewal Form: Married applicants must provide spouse’s name and phone number. Unmarried applicants must provide father’s or mother’s name. This form can also be filled online.
Medical Form: Have the checklist verified by an MBBS doctor. Forms are available near BRTA offices. Attach one attested photo on each form. Submit both forms with NID copy, license copy, bank slip copy, citizenship certificate, and original medical certificate.
For professional licenses: A police verification report is required, along with 3 passport-size and 1 stamp-size photo. A practical test must also be taken.
If all documents are correct, you’ll receive a duplicate license the same day or next day, valid until biometrics are completed.
Step 3:
After receiving the biometric SMS (or the given date), visit the BRTA office to provide fingerprints and photo. A computer copy will be issued that day.
Step 4:
After the specified time (as instructed by BRTA), submit the computer copy to collect your smart card license.
By following these steps, you can easily renew your motorcycle driving license and continue riding legally. That was the complete process of how to renew your license.
