Body Pain While Riding

Those of us who ride regularly often experience a common issue: body pain. Many suffer from severe pain in their hands, neck, back, or waist while riding. Most riders, especially young ones, don't take these pains seriously, but later face various problems. Some opt for pain medication as an easy solution, which acts as a temporary remedy but isn't a long-lasting solution; prolonged use of pain medication can even affect your kidneys. Before knowing what to do if you experience body pain while riding a motorcycle, we need to understand the mistakes that cause body pain. Finding these mistakes and taking appropriate action will alleviate the problem.

Mistakes That Cause Body Pain

Incorrect Bike Selection

A common mistake we make when buying a motorcycle is incorrect bike selection. This is one of the main reasons for body pain during riding. In most cases, we buy a bike just by looking at its beautiful design and attractive body shape without much thought. But we should remember that not everyone has the same physique. So, refrain from thinking that a beautiful and attractive bike body will automatically be good for you.

Incorrect Riding Style

Many make a very common mistake while riding, which is not riding in the correct riding position. If your neck and shoulders are hunched forward while riding, it causes discomfort and pain. In the case of sport bikes like the R15, riders often suffer from back pain because they ride with a bent spine, which causes back pain. Also, many ride with their feet placed downwards through the gear lever, which is not advisable at all. It is essential to change your riding habit and practice the correct riding style.

Right Hand Usage

While riding, we tend to use our right hand the most for tasks like applying the front brake and twisting the throttle. As a result, the wrist and palm of the right hand often ache. This happens due to the bike's firm grip and throttle holder.

Variations in Physical Build

We all know that not everyone has the same physique. It is also very true that it's not possible to build bikes based on everyone's physical build. Moreover, many don't even know which bike suits their build. Due to these variations in physical build, body pain can occur while riding.

Long Rides

Sometimes, long journeys lead to unavoidable pain. If you like to travel long distances, you should keep in mind that back and waist pain often occur during long rides. In such cases, some extra comfortable accessories can be taken along to reduce back and waist pain. Excessive use of the right hand during long rides can also cause severe pain in the right hand.

What to Do if You Experience Body Pain While Riding a Motorcycle

  • When buying a motorcycle, ensure that everything about it is compatible with your body. Considering your height and physique, carefully assess whether the motorcycle will be suitable and comfortable, then buy the right one.
  • When riding a motorcycle, always sit with a straight back. Keep your shoulders slightly curved backward and aligned with your waist. If you have a habit of riding too hunched over, change your riding style as much as possible.

  • To alleviate right hand pain, use soft grips and throttle holders.
  • Always try to ride the bike by firmly gripping the fuel tank with your legs. This will prevent knee pain and also give you better control of the bike.
  • When you buy a bike, adjust the handlebars and seat height to your preference.
  • Never apply excessive pressure to any part of your body while riding.
  • Ride with a worry-free and cheerful mind. Whenever you get a chance at a traffic signal or in a jam, relax and move your muscles. Do some ice-breaking exercises for your hands, feet, and neck, which will greatly relieve body pain during riding.

Body pain during riding is very common. Don't worry about it; instead, be mindful of the mistakes made while riding and enjoy a great bike riding experience.
