First Ride Experience of the Yamaha R15

How is the R15 advancing in its fourth generation?
Several factors contribute to the iconic status of the Yamaha R15. Its performance, styling, and handling are impressive. The R15 awakens a youthful spirit inside men and brings maturity to young riders. Every young rider feels a special connection with the R15. The 2021 model brought improved technology and a bold design to match other modern bikes worldwide. Though the price is relatively higher, compared to international racing bikes, it still feels quite affordable considering its performance, styling, and control.
Let’s check out an expert opinion from India’s experienced bike reviewer Kartikeya Singhee. The insights are arranged in a question-and-answer format.
Question 1: Is the higher price of V4 compared to V3 justified?
The base R15 V4 is naturally priced higher than the V3. In Bangladesh, the V3 costs around 500,000 BDT, while the V4 is available at about 550,000 BDT. The added features include KYB upside-down forks, traction control, a feature-rich instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, and a bright LED headlight. The improved plastic quality enhances its fit and finish. While the V3 feels compact, the V4 delivers a completely different riding experience. Span adjustment feels solid and reliable.
Yamaha R15 V4 Price
Model | Yamaha R15 V4 |
Base | 540,000 BDT |
Racing Blue | 545,000 BDT |
R15 M | 555,000 BDT |
R15 M Moto GP Edition | 565,000 BDT |
Question 2: Should you go for the R15 M variant?
The price difference among the variants ranges between 20,000–50,000 BDT. The Racing Blue variant is mid-range and includes a quick shifter. However, the M variant is recommended because it offers new colors, graphics, and R7-inspired design. For the extra cost, you also get gold-painted calipers, special badges, blue fork caps, premium fabric seats, and a grey finish on the swingarm and exhaust.
Question 3: How good is it for touring?
Within 550,000 BDT, the R15 is one of the most desirable bikes for personal use. Touring with it is not an issue. The improved Class D LED headlamp is much brighter and offers long-range visibility. Its aerodynamic design reduces drag from 0.307 to 0.293, enabling smooth high-speed travel. Test rides show the R15 V4 easily crosses triple-digit speeds. The seat is also quite comfortable for longer rides.

Width | 725 mm |
Wheelbase | 1325 mm |
Seat Height | 815 mm |
Question 4: Is it more comfortable?
Although seat height, wheelbase, and dimensions are similar to the V3, the V4 has a different feel. Pillion comfort remains the same. Clip-on bars are positioned slightly higher and angled for better ergonomics, offering comfort during daily rides or long tours.
Question 5: Is it better to ride?
The V4 is easier to handle. It’s lightweight, manageable, and versatile. The new KYB forks help maintain speed and stability even while cornering. However, the absence of radial front tires affects high-speed braking compared to radial calipers. In tests, braking from 100 km/h stopped the bike in 54 meters—better than the KTM RC 125. The ABS system also works smoothly.
Question 6: Does an 18PS motorcycle need traction control?
Not necessarily, but traction control adds extra safety. It regulates wheel power during sharp turns or drifts. It’s a welcome feature without extra cost.
Question 7: How effective is the quick shifter?
When the quick shifter is activated, the QS symbol appears on the instrument cluster. It works at 20 km/h and 2000 rpm, allowing clutchless upshifts. It can be slightly annoying at low speeds, but at higher speeds, it enhances the riding experience.
Question 8: Is the performance better?
Thanks to Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), RPM climbs quickly, and speeds above 100 km/h are easily achievable. Test rides recorded a top speed of 129 km/h. Power slightly decreased from 18.6 PS to 18.4 PS, and torque reduced from 14.2 Nm to 14.1 Nm. The 0–100 km/h time is 13.25 seconds. Though the NS200 is faster (11.68 seconds), it outperforms the KTM RC 125 (18.24 seconds).
Final Verdict
Although the price seems higher on paper, the engine capability, performance, and safety justify the cost. For upcoming riders and racing enthusiasts, the Yamaha R15 V4 is an excellent choice.
